Project Description

The Northwest Light Rail Extension Project is a 3.2-mile extension of the 20.3-mile starter line which extends the light rail transit system north on 19th Avenue from Montebello to Dunlap Avenue.  The alignment is located along one of Phoenix’s most highly travelled corridors and will serve nearly 20,000 residents, helping 20,000 employees commute to work, and serve nearly 10,000 family housing units.  Project features include embedded track in dedicated guideway, special trackwork and automated switches, three passenger stations, a park-and-ride facility, overhead catenary system, traction power substations; signaling system, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation, and roadway improvements.  As Prime Construction Manager in a joint venture, PGH Wong performed all project and construction management services for Valley Metro Rail.  The extension commenced revenue service ahead of schedule on March 19, 2016.
