Automated People Mover System

Wong provided design services as part of a $112 million design-build contract to construct an Automated People Mover (APM) System for the North Terminal of the Miami International Airport. The APM system is an essential part of a major master plan improvement project for the North Terminal, a domestic and international airline hub. The system consists of 8,500 linear feet of elevated guideway in a dual lane, pinched loop configuration with four passenger stations.

PGH Wong Engineering, Inc. was responsible for the systems and guideway design for the Design-build contractor. Key elements include:

  • Traction power substations
  • Power rails distributing 750 Vdc to the driverless-trains
  • Blue Light Systems and communications infrastructure
  • Uninterruptible power supplies
  • Inductive loops for the advanced communications-based train control system
  • Concrete running surfaces and guidance for the rubber-tired vehicles
